Didn't We say NO MEAT ..

L. rode 100+ miles today & NEEDED a sausage or two (shouldn't that be my line (wink wink)) with his veggie dinner I had planned. Since we are on the tail end of our Eat Local Challenge, we did a quick run to pick up some wonderful Niman Ranch HOT Italian Sausage (once again, I am a sucker for the packaging). Earlier in the evening I had roasted some zucchini, dry-farmed tomatoes, shallots, garlic and fresh pimento (which was picked up at Farmers Market today). Tossed together some HOT pasta with some fresh and local Ricotta, I found, and spooned the roasted veggies over the top. Nice Italian comfort food.

Comfort Food

Needed a small amount of comfort today. Made homemade mac and cheese and a simple salad of butter leaf lettuce, heirloom tomatoes and some very nice Roquefort! Ahhhhhh..... comfort!

Dry Farmed Tomatoes

I went to the farmer's market today, the first time I have been to the Saturday one in years! So glad I did as my favorite little girls where just sitting there waiting for me to buy them, take them home and turn them into something wonderful ~ Eggplant Stacks. Served with a simple Heirloom Tomato salad, crusty french bread and homemade butter inspired by Miche Mache! Wonderful evening we had!

Monday Night .....

Zucchini Ribbons tossed with a Heirloom Tomato sauce and fresh Ricotta. Light and Delicious! For dessert Apricot & Blueberry Clafoutis - light and fluffy, almost souffle like and full of flavor!! I used the recipe in my San Francisco Farmers Market cookbook - the best I have found yet!

Saturday Night ....... We are home

at least for a couple days! While we love being in Tahoe with our friends, E. & W., it was nice to come home. I was itching to get into the kitchen and L. was dying for a home-cooked meal! Did not have much in the cupboards so I had to be creative with what we had.... mozzarella cheese, whole wheat pasta, some white wine .... Did pick up some Heirlooms on the way home so we were set in the salad department. Threw together a pasta dish with some Roasted Red Peppers & Fresh chickpeas (kind of .. they had been frozen before leaving). Opened a bottle of Rose that we were saving to taste - terrible, well, not terrible but not what we were craving!

French way of eating ..

One of my favorite meals when it is just me, is a nice glass of wine, some outstanding cheese & a nice baguette! We have a tendency to eat this way very often when we are in France but do not do it at home as a couple - Why, I ask myself? L. is still out of town .... and maybe I was just missing him and our last trip to Paris; but, the two got me thinking and I whipped this up for dinner. A nice baguette with warm goat cheese & sliced tomatoes, I sprinkled some minced lavender over the top which added a very refreshing taste to this dish - bursting with flavor with the heirlooms and herbs! I also had an excellent glass of Malbec! Bon Appetite!

Summer Vegetable Pasta

My mom use to make this zucchini dish when I was a child. I just remember how great the gooey goodness of vegetables with cheese was! This is an updated & lighter version. I tossed it with some pasta ..... light and easy for a hot summer night.
